about

Pro Patria's tribute to the victims of World War One, possibly the most gruesome conflict in history.

Lyrics based on Wifred Owen's poem "Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria mori"

lyrics

Bent double
like beggars under sacks
Knock-kneed
we turned our backs
Our distant rest
began to trudge
All lame and blind
Shells dropping behind

Dulce et decorum
and we marched right into the deep
est Pro Patria mori
and we marched all sound asleep

Gas! Gas!
Helmets just in time
Someone yelling
in fire or lime
The thick green light
saw him drowning
Helpless sight
choking, drowning!

Dulce et decorum
and we marched right into the deep
est Pro Patria mori
and we marched all sound asleep

You too could pace
where we flung him in
White eyes in his face
sick of sin
Hear the blood
from corrupted lungs
Bitter as cud
for the old lie:

Dulce et decorum
and we marched right into the deep
est Pro Patria mori
and we marched all sound asleep

Lyrics based on Wilfred Owen's poem "Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria mori"

Probably the only known audio recording from World War One was mixed in the music: British soldiers firing gas shells at their adversaries in October 1918 near Lille, France.

The song ends with Pro Patria's reconstruction of the final minute of the war, as originally recorded on photographic film with a technique to visualise noise intensity.
