After having released a few promising but unsuccessful home-made demos, Pro Patria met Marc Schellekens, a professional studio engineer, in 1992. He immediately believed in the potential of the band and offered his help in order to make the original songs sound world-class. The result was "Spasmaticae", a compilation of the ten best songs of the preceding demos. The master was recorded digitally and a total of 200 cassette tapes were produced in two batches: 100 in August 1993 and a second, identical batch in July 1994.

Belgian origin Pro Patria was founded in 1988 by Peter V. (aka PVC). After achieving some success in the nineties, their first CD "Quod Erat Demonstrandum" remained unpublished after the bankruptcy of their record label and the band disappeared for 15 years.
